50th Anniversary Hymn Contest: We Have A Winner!
The Primate’s World Relief and Development Fund is proud to announce that Hope Metszies of Edmonton is the winner of our 50th Anniversary Hymn Contest. Congratulations Hope!
When contacted by Archbishop and Primate Fred Hiltz by telephone on Tuesday morning, Hope’s first words were, “I’m so glad. I put a lot of careful thought into this to speak to the work of PWRDF. This really excites me”.
Hope was a member of St. Peter’s Anglican Church, Edmonton where she directed both the junior and adult choirs. She played with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra for eighteen years and now works with children’s music and gives private music lessons. Hope is currently a member of Christ Church congregation where she makes music with the Sunday School children each week.
This winning entry will make its debut in early fall for use in parishes across Canada during the 50th anniversary celebrations and beyond!
PWRDF is grateful to all of those who submitted their work for this contest. We learn more about ourselves and our constituency when our work is described in their words.
“This hymn contest connects the ministry of PWRDF with local liturgical life and expressions of faith in our church. For 50 years PWRDF has been a significant part of the faith journey of Anglican’s in Canada and music is a significant part of that,” says Cheryl Curtis, PWRDF executive director.
A special thank you to the judges, The Very Rev. Iain Luke, The Rev. Canon William Cliff and Kenneth Hull, Associate Professor of Music, University of Waterloo for all of their hard work and enthusiasm for this project. Thank you to Rev. Katherine Bourbonniere for all of your input and expertise.
