Watch now as Suzanne Rumsey sets off from Halifax on a 1300 km fundraising bike ride to Ste Anne de Bellevue!

Suzanne Rumsey and her bicycle Olive left St Mary's University in Halifax this morning for Truro Nova Scotia, the first leg of their 1300 km journey to Ste Anne de Bellevue in Quebec. On a beautiful sunny morning, a group of General Synod delegates, staff and partners formed a circle around Suzanne (in faith), then "joined hands", and finally sent Suzanne on her way to "inspire hope". Jennifer is not new to leadership in the Anglican Church. She is actively involved in her parish and her Diocese (Western Newfoundland). She has taken on a new role this year to challenge herself and those around her to make choices inspired by working for justice for our brothers and sisters around the world. She is one of 10 Young Adults to participate in the first year of PWRDF’s 50 Leaders Program. Her project has been to promote the use of fair trade products.

All Saints Ladner, in the Diocese of New Westminster held a special PWRDF 50th Anniversary service on Sunday 14th March. Before the actual service the DVD with the messages from the Primate, Archbishop Tutu and Partners was shown to the gathered congregation. The celebrant and preacher at the service was former Primate, Archbishop Andrew Hutchison and he reminded the congregation of the work that PWRDF has done throughout the world over the past 50 years.

These are the ingredients for “Le Tour de PWRDF,” an awareness and fundraising bike ride being planned by Suzanne Rumsey, PWRDF’s Public Engagement Coordinator. Her ride will mark the official closing of PWRDF’s 50th anniversary celebrations at General Synod in Halifax this June.

On February 28, 2010, the Church of the Good Shepherd held a special anniversary service to mark the 50th anniversary of PWRDF. We used some of the liturgical resources provided by PWRDF with added suggestions from members of our Worship Committee. Parishioner Al Millar led the service with the children’s talk and homily given by another parishioner, Cheryl Horrey.

Victoria Heyens recently completed a 10 week internship at PWRDF. Victoria is a third year student living in Toronto and originally from Stoney Creek, near Hamilton. She is majoring in Religion and Psychology, but also taking Philosophy courses and a course on how to be a personal trainer.

As a student studying religion and psychology at the University of Toronto I have had the opportunity to intern with PWRDF over the last couple of months. It has been a rewarding experience in so many ways, as I have had countless opportunities to learn and grow. PWRDF has

There has been fun – loads of it; food – tonnes; and funds – lots – all in the name of celebrating The Primate’s World Relief and Development Fund’s 50th anniversary.

Given the challenge to create 50 events in each of the four ecclesiastical provinces, Canadian Anglicans have put their heads and hearts together and have come up with a smorgasbord of delights for the Cookies to Champagne: 50 CAFE Events.
