Pies for sale

Date:
May 4 2010 (All day)

Diocesan coordinator, Cynthia Haines Turner made pies as ‘commissioned’ with the recipients making a donation to PWRDF in return. All pies were made from ‘scratch’, using fresh ingredients (with the exception of the partridge berry pies as this Newfoundland delicacy had been picked earlier in September and frozen). All requests were honoured as to the kind of pie - they ran the gamut of pecan, pumpkin, lemon, coconut cream, apple, partridge berry, although my signature pies are lemon meringue and coconut cream. Over $320.00 was raised over the fall and spring.

Coin boxes were distributed in the parish earlier in the year and were returned on that evening. The diocesan coordinator was invited to speak. It took several young people to hold the box laden down with boxes laden down with coins - enough to equal more that $1,000 in fact!

On May 23, the ACW District Branch invited the Diocesan Coordinator to speak at their meeting. Following a slide show presentation and a sing-a-long with ‘Double Vision’, the ACW made a motion to donate $500.00 to PWRDF. ‘Double Vision’ is the name used by Gerard and Mona Edwards who exercise a music ministry in the Diocese. They are long time supporters of PWRDF and have made recordings of their music and sold the CD’s, giving half of the cost to PWRDF, giving over a total of $1500.00.
